With 266 days to go until the 4th European Games in Istanbul, Turkey, from 16 to 27 June 2027, the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) have announced the qualification system for table tennis. The competition will take place from 16 to 22 June.
A total of 192 athletes, 96 men and 96 women, will compete in men's singles, women's singles and the mixed team event, the largest table tennis participation in European Games history, up from 152 at Kraków 2026. The mixed team event makes its debut on the programme.
Sixteen teams will contest the mixed team event. Twelve places go directly to the host nation and the top 11 NOCs in the new European Mixed Team Ranking, due to be published on 6 November 2026. The remaining four places will be decided at a qualification event in Istanbul from 9 to 12 February 2027. Each team consists of three men, three women and one reserve per gender.
The European Mixed Team Ranking combines each association's highest-ranked men's and women's singles players, positions in the European team rankings, and best results in men's, women's and mixed doubles at the most recent European Individual Championships.
In singles, each event has 64 players. Every NOC with a qualified mixed team receives two places per gender for their two highest-ranked players on the ETTU European Singles Ranking of 9 April 2027. A further 31 places per gender go to the best-ranked players not already qualified, with a maximum of two per NOC. One universality place per gender will be allocated by EOC and ETTU.
The mixed team gold medallists in Istanbul will earn a direct quota place for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, making the event a crucial early step on the road to the Olympics.
